Megan Rita Roberts: What’s interesting me at the moment: reframing my blog purpose

I’ve been slack in working on posts for this blog (ergh, perfectionism = paralysis!), and I’ve spent a lot of time considering why. I realized that I got stuck in the ‘evaluation’ frame – feeling like I could only write posts about evaluation, because that was the space I was in. Well, now I am still in that space, but also, in other spaces. So, it’s important to expand this blog of mine to include a more diverse range of topics. The original intersection of discourses still holds, but more and more is coming up and I can’t keep track of it all.

So, in the coming months, I’d really like to start writing more and collating some of the learnings I have gathered during my time travelling and my recent resettlement in Canberra and this blog is where I’d like to do it in. Some posts may still have the flavour of evaluation (I am obsessed with learning after all), but I would like to widen the scope to include more thoughts on sustainable living, activism, community development, and social change in general (yes lots, I know, but they all relate and we need to be doing all of them if we’re going to keep living on this planet). Underlying this is my own experience of personal reflexivity and of the experiments I conduct.

In my mind there are four domains that are catching my attention at the moment – all have a common link through the idea of a learning orientation and intention.

The following are lines of thought I’d like to explore

  • How can co-operative and communal endeavours be managed (community development, sustainability, activism etc)
  • How can we best use information and have clarity of purpose in those endeavours (evaluation, research, tools and approaches)
  • What can be learnt from the great things happening (case studies on cool enterprises and people, lessons from travel and freelance work, interesting ideas)
  • How to embed the learning from this into everyday lived experiences (personal reflexivity, reflections on my own experiments in implementing concepts I learn about)

To my audience, I’d like to check in and see if there is anything else that you might like to see me post about? Tweet me or comment below if you do!
